Mississippi Mills invites residents to help shape the future of Almonte

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is inviting residents to have their say on three major community planning initiatives that will guide the future of growth, housing, and public spaces in Almonte for years to come.
In order to hear from local residents, the municipality is hosting a public open house that will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Almonte Old Town Hall Auditorium at 14 Bridge Street. Community members will be able to review the presented draft plans, speak with municipal staff and consultants, and share their feedback on the proposals.
According to the municipality, the event will feature three key projects that are currently in draft form:
Almonte Public Realm Plan – This long-term vision focuses on improving public spaces along Downtown Almonte and Ottawa Street, with strategies for streetscape design, public art, and ongoing maintenance.
Almonte Downtown Secondary Plan — Developed by Parsons Consulting, this plan lays out a comprehensive framework to guide development in Almonte’s core. It addresses land use, heritage preservation, housing, transportation, environmental protection, and the overall character of the downtown area.

Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan (CIP) — Prepared by J.L. Richards & Associates, this initiative is part of the municipality’s Housing Accelerator Fund agreement with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The draft plan proposes financial incentives to encourage developers to include affordable housing units in new or renovated projects.
All draft documents are available for public review and download through the municipality’s website ahead of the open house.
