Smiths Falls opens new Cataraqui trailhead on Lombard Street

The Town of Smiths Falls has opened a new public trailhead on Lombard Street, providing an access point and parking area for users of the Cataraqui Trail.
The site includes parking for up to 20 vehicles, and is located between Leisure Days RV Centre and Smiths Falls Kia. The hope is it will address long-standing safety and congestion concerns on nearby streets. The project was developed by the Community Services Department with support from Public Works.
“This new trailhead is about connection; connecting people to nature, to each other, and to the broader regional trail network,” said Stephanie Clark, Director of Community Services in a statement. “We are incredibly fortunate to be one of the official termini of the Cataraqui Trail, and this investment helps ensure residents and visitors can experience it safely and conveniently.”
The Cataraqui Trail, managed by Cataraqui Conservation, stretches 104 kilometres from Smiths Falls to Strathcona and is open year-round.
“We appreciate our partnership with the Town of Smiths Falls and their commitment to making the Cataraqui Trail a more accessible, visible and welcoming spot,” said David Ellingwood, General Manager of Cataraqui Conservation in a media release.
An official opening ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.
