Southeast Public Health (SEPH) is advising clients of Ivy Beauty Bar in Carleton Place of possible exposure to improperly cleaned equipment.

The advisory applies to anyone who received manicure, pedicure or waxing services at the salon, located at 545 McNeely Ave., between May 31, 2023, and Oct. 17, 2025.

SEPH identified infection prevention and control concerns during a recent inspection, according to a Wednesday, Oct. 29 media release.

While the overall risk of infection is considered low, improperly cleaned or disinfected instruments can potentially transmit blood-borne infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C and, less commonly, HIV. No illnesses have been linked to the salon at this time.

According to SEPH, Ivy Beauty Bar has taken immediate corrective action and now meets all infection prevention and control standards required to operate safely.

“Although the risk of infection is low in this case, we want to urge any person who may have been exposed to infection to speak with a health-care provider and to pursue testing, if recommended,” said Dr. Ethan Toumishey, Deputy Medical Officer of Health for SEPH.

Clients who received services during the affected period are encouraged to consult their health-care provider about possible testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV.

Further information, including the full Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lapse Report and a list of frequently asked questions, is available on the SEPH website. Members of the public can also contact SEPH at 1-800-660-5853 ext. 2222.
