The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) has expanded its MRI service hours, allowing for more scans each week and shorter wait times for patients across Lanark, Leeds and Grenville.

The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital serves more than 75,000 people across its two sites and this latest service expansion reflects the hospital’s continued focus on improving access and advancing patient care throughout the Rideau Canal region.

As of Oct. 16, 2025 the hospital introduced extended evening hours for MRI appointments — a move that will reportedly add between 70 and 85 additional exams per week to its schedule. According to a release from the hospital, PSFDH currently performs about 3,100 MRI exams annually, but with the new hours, that number is expected to rise substantially.

“The addition of evening hours is a meaningful step forward in improving access to care,” said Behrooz Izadi, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging Services. “With the ability to perform up to 85 more exams each week, we are better positioned to meet the growing needs of our patients and reduce wait times.”

Meanwhile, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation continues its active fundraising efforts to further enhance diagnostic services, including ongoing support for the MRI campaign.

“We’re profoundly grateful for the ongoing support of our community,” said Margot Hallam, CEO of the PSFDH Foundation. “Every donation strengthens our ability to enhance diagnostic services and achieve better outcomes for the patients we serve.”

Donations to the MRI campaign help fund the hospital’s growing diagnostic imaging program and can be made online at www.psfdhfoundation.com.
