Three charged with murder in connection to missing Smiths Falls man Robbie Thompson

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two Montague residents and one Kingston resident in connection with the disappearance of Robbie Thomson, who was reported missing from the Smiths Falls area in October 2023.
Although Thomson’s body has not been found, investigators have determined he was the victim of a homicide, according to a Thursday, Oct. 30 media release from OPP. Police have been searching for the missing man for over two years.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, members of the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit, Smiths Falls Police Service, OPP Emergency Response Team, and OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit made three arrests. Kingston Police assisted with one of them.
Charged with first-degree murder are:
- Christopher Fenton, 48, of Montague Township
- Erin Mackie, 40, of Montague Township
- Joshua Belfiori, 34, of Kingston
Charges have not been proven in court.
All three remain in custody and are scheduled to appear for bail hearings before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025.
Earlier this month, the Province of Ontario issued a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Thompson’s disappearance.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the Smiths Falls Police Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
Police say residents can expect to see a large police presence at a property on Kelly Jordan Road, northeast of Smiths Falls, as part of the investigation. There is no threat to public safety, police say.
