Human remains found near Smiths Falls linked to Robbie Thomson homicide case: police

Ontario Provincial Police say human remains have been found at a property near Smiths Falls as part of an ongoing homicide investigation connected to the disappearance of Robbie Thomson.
On Thursday, Oct. 30, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Kelly Jordan Road, northeast of Smiths Falls, where the remains were discovered. Police say a postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the identity of the remains and determine the cause of death.
The discovery comes one day after police announced the arrest of three people in connection with Thomson’s disappearance and death.
Thomson was reported missing in October 2023. Although his body had not been located at the time of the arrests, police were confident he was the victim of a homicide.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, members of the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit, Smiths Falls Police Service, OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit made three arrests, with assistance from Kingston Police.
Charged with first-degree murder are: Christopher Fenton, 48, of Montague Township; Erin Mackie, 40, of Montague Township and Joshua Belfiori, 34, of Kingston. Charges have not been proven in court.
All three remain in custody following a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear again before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025.
Residents of Kelly Jordan Road will continue to see a large police presence as part of this investigation. There is no risk to public safety, police say.
Earlier this month, the Province of Ontario offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Thomson’s disappearance.
Police say the investigation is being led by the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch with assistance from the Smiths Falls Police Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. OPP Forensic Identification Services are also supporting the investigation.
