The Mississippi River Health Alliance says Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital will receive a combined $2.8 million through the Ontario government’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund for 2025-26.

The funding will support key upgrades meant to keep hospital facilities safe and reliable for patients, families, and staff. Almonte General Hospital will receive $864,431, including one-time funding for priority projects. Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital will receive $1,958,862, most of which will go toward new sprinkler systems and other fire safety improvements.

“We are grateful for this investment in our hospitals,” said Brad Harrington, president and CEO of the Mississippi River Health Alliance in a media release. “These funds allow us to move forward with infrastructure projects that are essential to maintaining safe, modern, and reliable facilities for our patients, staff, medical staff, and community members.”

The Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund helps hospitals address pressing needs such as fire safety upgrades, roofs, windows, and mechanical systems. Projects are chosen through the province’s Facility Condition Assessment Program.

“This funding means our teams can continue focusing on what matters most – delivering high-quality, compassionate care – while knowing the physical spaces around us are safe, reliable, and able to meet the needs of our communities today and into the future,” said James Hildebrand, vice-president of capital development and support services at MRHA in the release.

Both hospitals have already begun setting priorities and mobilizing resources, with efforts aimed at completing the work efficiently and reducing disruptions for patients, staff, and visitors.

MRHA says the investment will help address immediate infrastructure needs while supporting long-term planning and ensuring health care remains safe and accessible close to home.
