Trustees Jamie Schoular and Lynda Johnston will continue as chair and vice-chair of the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) for the 2025-26 school year. This marks the third consecutive year the pair will lead the board.

The chair and vice-chair are elected annually by their peers during the board’s organizational meeting.

Schoular, first elected as a trustee in 2018, is serving his second term and entering his third year as board chair.

“I’m honoured to serve again as chair and work alongside such a dedicated group of trustees who always put students first,” said Schoular in a statement. “Our board remains focused on what’s best for students and on strong fiscal stewardship. As we anticipate a year of change and renewal in public education, we welcome Minister Calandra’s leadership and his review of school board governance. We share his focus on fiscal responsibility and improved student outcomes, and we look forward to working with him to strengthen public education across Ontario.”

Johnston, who was elected in 2022, is in her first term as trustee and third year as vice-chair.

“I’m really proud of this board and everything that those at this table stand for,” she said. “Students are at the heart of our work and this focus remains crystal clear through all the decisions made by this team. Thank you for your continued support and I’m looking forward to another year serving as vice-chair.”

According to a media release from the UCDSB, under Schoular and Johnston’s leadership, the UCDSB has passed budgets with modest surpluses, improved EQAO scores in reading, writing, and math across all grade levels, and seen annual increases in both graduation rates and student enrolment.
