United Way East Ontario names Rachael Wilson as new CEO

United Way East Ontario has announced Rachael Wilson as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 12, 2026. Wilson brings 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and a record of transformational leadership, strategic collaboration, and community-building.
Most recently, Wilson served as CEO of the Ottawa Food Bank, where she guided the organization through significant growth and change. She also played a key role in Ottawa’s city-wide Poverty Reduction Strategy, partnering with the City of Ottawa, United Way East Ontario, and cross-sector collaborators on issues spanning housing, employment, social services, and food security.
Thom Donnelly, Chair of the United Way East Ontario Board of Directors, described Wilson as “an award-winning leader, skilled communicator, strong relationship builder and expert fundraiser” who brings credibility and experience to address critical regional issues.
“I am honoured to be joining United Way East Ontario at a time when our communities are counting on us to uncover and address the systemic challenges affecting everyday life,” said Wilson. “United Way offers hope for a future where everyone can reach their full potential, and I am excited to lead this organization as we work on long-term solutions to critical issues like housing, financial stability, and mental wellbeing.”
The appointment followed a national search supported by Odgers, an executive recruitment firm, designed to ensure a fair and accessible process. Dennise Taylor-Gilhen, who served as Interim President and CEO since June 2024, will transition to an advisory role supporting strategic initiatives. Donnelly thanked Taylor-Gilhen for her “steady, compassionate leadership and vital contributions” to the organization.
