A new mental health and addictions services outlet has launched in Smiths Falls, with the opening of a Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) centre.

The site is part of a provincial plan to invest almost $550 million in 28 hubs across Ontario. The goal is to improve access to treatment and recovery supports for people facing housing instability, addiction and mental health challenges, while also supporting community safety.

“We are building a stronger, more connected system of mental health and addictions care that better reflects the needs of communities and focuses on lasting recovery,” said Vijay Thanigasalam, associate minister for mental health and addictions in a media release from the Ontario government. “The opening of this new HART Hub will ensure that people struggling with mental health and addictions challenges in Lanark County and surrounding communities can get the care they need on their path to recovery, while keeping the community safe.”

HART Hubs bring a variety of services together in one place, including primary care, mental health supports, addictions treatment, social services and employment assistance.

The Smiths Falls hub will be run with Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health. It will begin offering services this month. A second site in Brockville is expected to open in spring 2026. Both locations will operate as part of a network of clinical and social service providers working to connect people with the supports they need.

Services will be tailored to local needs and may include counselling, peer support, primary care, withdrawal management, addictions treatment beds, supportive housing and employment supports.
