Mississippi Mills announces holiday waste collection changes, expanded recycling in January

Residents of Mississippi Mills can expect a temporary shift in curbside waste and recycling collection over the holidays, the municipality announced this week.
Because Christmas Day falls on a Thursday this year, waste collection scheduled for December 25, 2025 will take place on Friday, Dec. 26, and regular Friday pickup will move to Saturday, Dec. 27. The same changes will apply the following week: New Year’s Day collection on Thursday, Jan. 1 will be moved to Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday pickup will take place Saturday, Jan. 3.
The municipality is also reminding households that during the collection dates in the week immediately following both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, residents may place one extra container of waste at the curb without a bag tag.
Mississippi Mills is also preparing for major recycling changes as a new contractor, Miller Waste, will assume service on January 1, 2026. Under the new program, residents will be able to recycle a wider range of materials, including black plastic containers, hot and cold beverage cups, deodorant containers, toothpaste tubes, frozen juice containers and ice cream tubs.
More details about accepted materials and the new program can be found through Circular Materials at the municipality’s dedicated page.
