Prospective 2026 council candidates invited to free AMO democracy workshops

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills has released information for those interested in potentially running for municipal office later this year.
Municipal leaders and prospective council candidates are being invited to take part in a free online workshop series aimed at strengthening local leadership ahead of Ontario’s 2026 municipal elections.
The Association of Municipalities of Ontario has launched the Healthy Democracy Leaders Series: Stronger Leaders, Stronger Communities, an interactive program open to current elected officials as well as those considering a first run for council. The sessions are offered at no cost and will be held online via Zoom.
Developed in partnership with Nominee, the series focuses on challenges facing municipal leaders, including political polarization, social media pressures and personal wellbeing while in public office. The program includes facilitated discussions, peer engagement and practical leadership tools.
The series is open to municipal elected officials across Ontario, leaders preparing for re-election in 2026, newly elected or mid-term officials, and experienced leaders seeking professional renewal and peer connection.
According to AMO, participants will gain tools for managing conflict, improving communication, supporting mental health and maintaining balance while leading in their communities.
The workshop schedule includes:
- Finding Your Why – Leading with Purpose and Authenticity: Feb. 19, 2026
- Praise Your Rivals – Managing Conflict and Building Relationships: March 26, 2026
- What Matters Most – Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellbeing: April 23, 2026
- Building Your Movement – Turning Values into Action: May 7, 2026
