Speeding stop on Highway 7 near Perth leads to stolen vehicle recovery, multiple charges

A speeding vehicle stop on Highway 7 has led to multiple charges and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Lanark County OPP say in a Tuesday, Jan. 13 media release that an officer was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 7 between Perth and Innisville on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, shortly after 8:30 a.m., when a vehicle was detected travelling more than 110 kilometres per hour in an 80-kilometre-per-hour zone.
Police say the vehicle was stopped and found to have been reported stolen in Ottawa in late December. Officers also determined the driver was under a licence suspension and did not have valid insurance.
As a result of the investigation, Matthew Carpenter, 36, of Arnprior, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, driving while under suspension, driving a vehicle with no licence, failing to have insurance, speeding and breach of recognizance. Charges have not been proven in court.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026.
