The Carleton Place Environmental Advisory Committee (CPEAC) is looking to add new voices and perspectives to the topic of environmentalism by accepting applications for two non-voting student member positions.

The CPEAC is fundamental in providing recommendations and advice to Carleton Place town council and municipal staff on environmental issues and sustainable solutions, according to a release from the town. Their work helps guide local policies and actions aimed at protecting and preserving the community’s environmental goals such as exploring ways to reduce methane emissions through improved composting services to examining public transit opportunities.

CPEAC representatives say the student positions are intended for individuals in high school who are concerned about environmental issues and interested in making a difference at the local level. “Student members attend our monthly meetings and help with events and projects as needed,” detailed the committee. “It’s a great way to complete your community service hours while learning about environmental initiatives in our town!”

The student members will serve in a non-voting capacity, allowing them to participate in discussions and contribute ideas while gaining experience in municipal advisory work.

More information about the CPEAC and the application process is available on the Town of Carleton Place website. Interested applicants can apply by emailing Town Clerk Stacey Blair at sblair@carletonplace.ca or contacting the committee directly at cpeac@carletonplace.ca.
