Local physicians, politicians and community partners gathered last week to celebrate the grand opening of Ottawa Valley Family Health Team (OVFHT) Carleton Place, a major expansion of team-based primary care services for residents of Carleton Place and Beckwith.

The new comprehensive clinic brings together 15 physicians from five local practices under one roof, allowing doctors in Carleton Place and Beckwith to work alongside OVFHT’s interdisciplinary healthcare team, according to a release from the Town of Carleton Place.

The expansion was supported by approximately $1.2 million in new annual provincial funding, along with a combined $1.7 million in municipal funding over 10 years from the Town of Carleton Place and the Township of Beckwith.

Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell said the OVFHT clinic reflects years of collaboration between multiple municipalities, physicians and the family health team.

“By working together, we are supporting a model of care that helps doctors serve residents effectively while strengthening the foundation of local healthcare long term,” Randell said, adding that the initiative also prepares the community for future physician recruitment needs.

According to town officials, OVFHT Carleton Place includes 15 physicians, one nurse practitioner and 27 staff and has been providing care to approximately 17,000 rostered patients. While the official ribbon cutting ceremony took place on January 23, 2026, the clinic began welcoming patients to its new location in October 2025 and is reportedly experiencing an average of about 3,600 patient visits per month.

“When physicians, nurse practitioners and other specialists work as a team under one roof, patients receive more coordinated, accessible and timely care, close to home,” said John Jordan, MPP for Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston.

The new integrated facility and care model is anticipated to help attract and retain doctors in the region. Dr. Darrell Vandenbrink, chair of the OVFHT board, argued that bringing physicians together in a single location will improve the long-term success of patients and staff.

“This is a great opportunity to build a cohesive interdisciplinary team, which will provide coordinated services to patients within their health home,” said Vandenbrink. “We know this team-based model of care leads to better outcomes and a better experience for patients.”

OVFHT Carleton Place is located on the second floor of the Carleton Place Regional Health Hub at 22 Costello Drive.
