Perth seeks public input over amended 2026 water and sewer rates

Residents in the Perth will soon have an opportunity to weigh in on proposed changes to their water and sewer rates, as council prepares to amend its 2026 rates by-law.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, February 17, 2025, the Town of Perth confirmed that council intends to pass an amendment reflecting increases approved in the municipality’s 2026 budget. If adopted, water and sewer rates would rise by six per cent this year.
For the average household, this adjustment would amount to an increase of approximately $65.82 for 2026, based on typical consumption levels.
Municipal officials say the amendment is part of the town’s regular budgetary process and is designed to ensure continued investment in essential infrastructure, including water treatment, wastewater management and long-term system maintenance.
The proposed by-law amendment will be reviewed at two upcoming events: the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular town council meeting on Tuesday, March 24 at 5:30 p.m. Both meetings will take place in council chambers at Town Hall but will also be livestreamed on the town’s YouTube channel for the public to view.
Residents who wish to speak directly to council about the proposed rate increase must submit a Request to Speak form through the town’s website by noon on Friday, Feb. 27. Written comments may also be submitted to the clerk’s office ahead of the meeting.
Additional information about the proposed changes is available through Nev Jande of the treasury department who can be reached at 613-267-3311 ext. 2223.
