Town of Perth working to reverse duplicate tax withdrawals after payment system error

The Town of Perth says it is working to reverse duplicate property tax withdrawals after a payment system error resulted in some residents being charged twice.
In a public notice issued on Friday, February 27, 2026, the municipality said an issue occurred with its pre-authorized tax payment system that led to two withdrawals being taken instead of one for certain residents enrolled in the plan.
Municipal officials shared that they are actively working with their banking partner to reverse the extra withdrawal in full. The refund will be processed as quickly as possible, the town assured, and staff will verify the correct single withdrawal is processed as originally intended.
The town has apologized for the error and acknowledged the concern it may cause for affected taxpayers. It also noted that any fees incurred as a result of the duplicate charge will be refunded.
An update will be provided once the reversal has been confirmed.
Residents with questions are being asked to contact the town’s treasury office.
