Significant freezing rain possible for Lanark County midweek

Environment Canada is warning of a potentially significant freezing rain event expected to affect the Lanark County area later this week, and has issued a special weather statement.
According to the forecast, a prolonged period of freezing rain could begin Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and potentially last through Wednesday night. Some areas could see up to 24 hours of freezing rain.
Ice buildup of 10 to 20 millimetres is possible, which could lead to hazardous travel conditions and damage to trees and power lines.
Environment Canada warns the accumulation of ice may cause tree branches to break, raising the risk of widespread power outages.
The freezing rain may fall heavily at times. In those cases, precipitation may not freeze immediately on contact with surfaces, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The event is expected to be caused by a series of low-pressure systems moving across southern Ontario.
Environment Canada says freezing rain warnings are likely to be issued as the system approaches and is encouraging residents to monitor forecasts and weather alerts closely.
