The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is officially moving ahead with a road maintenance project on a busy stretch of Highway 7, with construction expected to begin this summer.

According to a release from the Town of Carleton Place, the province has retained engineering firm GFT to complete the detailed design work for resurfacing Highway 7 from about 2.1 kilometres west of Highway 15 to 1.5 kilometres east of the highway.

The project will focus on improving the conditions of the main highway lanes through micro-surfacing, a preventative treatment that helps extend the life of asphalt. Crews will also be carrying out milling and paving work on the Ottawa Valley Rail Trail overpass.

Construction is expected to take three to four weeks and is anticipated to be completed between July and August 2026, according to town officials.

As for the impact on local residents, drivers can expect temporary disruptions during that time with short-term lane closures required along two-lane sections of the highway. The work may cause additional residential impacts, including increased noise, lighting and limited access to streets, homes and businesses.

The town did clarify that In multi-lane areas, lane closures will be scheduled during both daytime and nighttime hours in an effort to reduce congestion.

Residents and businesses in the area are invited to provide feedback or request more information as the project moves forward by contacting MTO – East Project Manager Shelby Quinn at Shelby.Quinn@ontario.ca or GFT Project Manager Michel Bisson at mbisson@gfinc.com
