Carleton Place launches spring leaf collection, compost yard and waste depot services

After a very long winter, many local residents are finally gearing up to take on spring cleaning and yard work responsibilities. With that in mind, the Town of Carleton Place has outlined key dates and guidelines for leaf collection, compost services and household hazardous waste disposal in the following weeks.
The town’s Public Works Department will begin its annual spring curbside leaf collection program on April 20, running through May 1, 2026. During this period, residents are asked to place their leaf bags at the curb by 7 a.m. on their regular collection days.
Residents are advised that only paper leaf bags will be accepted, and plastic bags will not be collected. Additionally, each bag must also weigh no more than 15 kilograms.
Town officials explain that the seasonal program is part of a broader effort to help residents manage spring yard cleanup while keeping organic waste out of landfill.
Following the leaf collection period, the town’s compost yard at 1 Bates Drive Compost Yard will officially reopen for the season on May 2. The yard will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with additional Wednesday evening hours starting May 6 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Later in the spring, the town will also reopen its Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located at 128 Patterson Crescent Household Hazardous Waste Depot. The depot will begin seasonal operation on Saturday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The service is available not only to Carleton Place residents, but also to those living in nearby municipalities including Beckwith, Drummond/North Elmsley, Montague, Mississippi Mills, Smiths Falls and Perth. Proof of residency will be required upon arrival.
