Lanark County to begin second phase of historic Five Span Bridge Rehabilitation Project

A major years-long infrastructure project aimed at preserving a historic crossing in Lanark County is set to move into another phase next month, and residents should prepare for a full road closure once construction begins.
In a release issued by Lanark County last week, officials confirmed that work on the Five Span Bridge Rehabilitation Project will officially start on Monday, May 11, 2026 and will require the complete closure of the bridge for the duration of the project.
“These works form the next phase of the County’s ongoing investment in maintaining this important historic crossing in the community,” said Sean Derouin, Public Works Director.
According to County officials, the project will include masonry and stone repairs, improvements to road approaches, and the installation of new lighting both beneath and on the bridge. These upgrades are designed to enhance safety while preserving the bridge’s structure for long-term use.
To allow construction to proceed efficiently, no through traffic will be permitted once the closure takes effect. To help guide motorists, a signed detour route will be in place, directing drivers along Kinburn Side Road, Upper Dwyer Hill Road, and Galletta Side Road before reconnecting with Highway 29.

County officials say the detour will be clearly marked and will remain the same throughout the project.
Lanark County is thanking the public in advance for their patience and cooperation as construction progresses, adding that further updates will be shared as the project moves forward.
