Mississippi Mills mayor Christa Lowry to seek re-election in 2026 municipal election

Christa Lowry, mayor of Mississippi Mills, has announced she will seek re-election in the October 2026 municipal election, citing a continued commitment to representing and strengthening the eastern Ontario community.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 1, 2026, Lowry confirmed she has officially entered the race after picking up her nomination package from the municipal Clerk’s Office earlier this week.
“The moment served as a powerful reminder of the trust and responsibility that comes with serving this community,” Lowry expressed.
First elected as mayor in 2022, Lowry said this past term has been shaped by both challenges and opportunities. However, she says all of these unique opportunities have reinforced her dedication to the role.
“Mississippi Mills deserves a strong, steady voice that shows up, speaks up, and stands up for our community at all tables where decisions are being made,” she told residents. “I remain committed to ensuring our residents are well represented, respected, and heard.”
Lowry stated that her vision for another term is one based on inclusivity given the municipality’s diverse population, which includes rural and urban residents, seniors, youth, families, and workers across a range of sectors.
“My vision of Mississippi Mills includes everyone,” she emphasized. “New neighbours, recent immigrants, families that stretch back for generation, and those who have cared for this land for thousands of years. This diversity requires thoughtful leadership, careful planning, and a clear vision.”
Until the close of nominations on Aug. 21, Lowry said her focus will remain on her ongoing duties as mayor. She added that once the formal campaign period begins, communications related to her re-election bid will be conducted through separate campaign channels, with more details expected later in August.
