Bikers, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts are being invited to help shape the future of the K&P Trail as Lanark County prepares to host a public open house later this month.

According to a notice from Lanark County, the public open house is related to the county’s purchase of a section of the trail within Lanark Highlands Township. In December 2025, Renfrew County, the County of Frontenac, and Lanark County signed documents marking the beginning of the process to transfer ownership of sections of the historic K&P Trail from the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), as previously reported by Lanarkist.

Staff involved in the transfer will be on hand throughout the event to answer questions and collect input from attendees in hopes of balancing recreation, conservation, and local needs when moving forward with the trail ownership.

County officials reiterate the goal of the open house is to gather feedback from residents on how the trail could be used and managed moving forward, while also providing updates on the project’s progress.

The drop-in open house is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Hopetown Hall at 5633 Hwy 511. There is no formal presentation planned, as county officials want attendees to engage directly with staff at their own pace and in their own way.

More information about the consultation process is available on the county’s website.
