Public information session planned for proposed Almonte wastewater infrastructure upgrades

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is moving forward with plans to expand key wastewater infrastructure in Almonte as the community prepares for future residential growth and increased development pressures.
In a release on Friday, May 15, 2026, the municipality announced that it will hold a second public information session next month as part of an ongoing environmental assessment process examining proposed upgrades to the Gemmill’s Bay Wastewater Pumping Station and the Mississippi Mills Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Municipal officials say the two facilities are closely connected because all wastewater generated within Almonte’s urban boundary is routed through the Gemmill’s Bay pumping station before being transferred to the wastewater treatment plant.
According to the release, infrastructure studies in recent years confirmed both facilities will require expanded capacity in the near future to accommodate projected wastewater flows tied to anticipated residential and commercial development over the coming years.

The environmental assessment study is being carried out under Ontario’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment framework, which will evaluate potential design concepts for both facilities while considering technical, environmental, economic and community impacts before selecting preferred expansion plans.
The municipality says public consultation remains a central part of the planning process, with three public information centres in total being implemented throughout the study.
The second public information centre is set for June 22, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the John Levi Community Centre at 182 Bridge Street in Almonte.
Residents attending the session will be able to review proposed upgrades to the Gemmill’s Bay Wastewater Pumping Station and the Mississippi Mills Wastewater Treatment Plant and provide feedback to the project team.
