The Town of Perth is recognizing Pride Month throughout June with the raising of the Progress Pride Flag and a renewed call for inclusion, equality and awareness for members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

In a recent mayoral declaration released from the town, Mayor Judy Brown officially proclaimed June 2026 as Pride Month in Perth, signifying the town’s reaffirmed support for equality and freedom from discrimination for all residents, regardless of race, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability or ethnic backgrounds.

The proclamation acknowledged the cultural, civic and economic contributions made by members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community within Perth and beyond, stating that the town’s diverse population “leads to a more vibrant community” and “contribute to the cultural, civic and economic successes.”

The declaration also notes that while society at large continues to make progress in understanding “new definitions of sexuality and gender”, there is still more work to be done. “We must acknowledge the need for education and awareness remains vital to end discrimination and prejudice education.”

As Pride Month nears, Mayor Brown is encouraging residents to reflect on the continuing struggle for equality faced by members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, while also celebrating the progress made and the contributions these individuals and groups make to the broader community.

As part of this formal recognition, the town will fly the Progress Pride Flag at Perth Town Hall throughout the month of June. The flag’s colours are intended to symbolize healing, light, spirit and inclusion.
