Concerns about speeding and traffic safety are coming to the forefront in Mississippi Mills as municipal officials seek public input on new measures aimed at making local roads safer.

In a public statement shared Thursday, June 11, 2026, Mayor Christa Lowry said she is keenly aware of the residents who are worried about vehicle speeds and traffic safety in neighbourhoods across the municipality.

“I’ve been hearing from many residents with concerns about traffic safety and vehicle speeds in our neighbourhoods,” Lowry said. “It is clearly something people care deeply about.”

As a result of these concerns, Lowry explained that council is currently in the process of developing a traffic calming policy and residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming discussions to help shape future decisions.

The mayor detailed that the municipality has also consulted traffic engineers, who completed a comprehensive traffic safety review earlier this year of all five school zones within Mississippi Mills.

“Their recommendations focus on actions the municipality can take, recognizing that schools and school boards follow their own decision-making processes,” she said.

Residents will have an opportunity to learn more about both initiatives and share their feedback at an upcoming Public Information Centre scheduled for June 22, 2026 at the John Levi Community Centre. The event will run from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature information on a variety of municipal projects and priorities.

In addition to traffic safety and school zone improvements, the municipality will also provide updates on organics diversion, water infrastructure projects, the 2026 municipal election and other relevant community initiatives.

“These sessions are a great opportunity to connect with staff, ask questions, and help shape the decisions Council makes,” Lowry urged. “I hope you can stop by. Your voice is important in all these decisions.”

Residents interested in learning more or signing up for project updates can do so through the municipality’s community engagement website.
