Local families, youth and community members are invited to celebrate the start of the summer season while supporting local programming at the Carleton Place Youth Centre’s annual Kick Off to Summer Fundraiser later this week.

The family-friendly event will take place this weekend on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Place Youth Centre (CPYC), located at 360 Edmund St. According to a release from the Town of Carleton Place, CPYC organizers say the fundraiser serves as both a celebration of another successful school year and as an opportunity to bring the community together for a day of fun and collaboration.

“Our Kick Off to Summer Fundraiser is a chance to celebrate our youth, connect with the community and raise funds that help us continue offering important programs and opportunities throughout the year,” organizers shared.

The event will feature a wide variety of activities designed to keep guests of all ages entertained, including crafts, games, food, face painting, and a popular used book sale. Visitors can also stop and enjoy a barbecue lunch, canteen treats and ice cream from Michelle’s Ice Cream Carnival.

One of the event highlights will be a craft station operated by the CPYC’s Leadership in Training participants. Sponsored by Craft Cycle Creative Reuse Centre, the craft station will feature bracelet making, origami and LEGO printing activities, according to the release. Splat Art Studio will have a local artist provide face painting to children throughout the event.

Book lovers will also have the chance to browse a large used book sale with options for readers of all ages and interests. The CPYC said the annual book sale has become one of the most popular attractions and fundraisers for the centre.

For those looking for more active entertainment, there will also be a variety of outdoor field games being hosted, including soccer, giant chess and giant Jenga.

“Whether you’re joining us for lunch, picking up a new book, creating a craft, or simply spending time with friends and neighbours, we invite you to come out and celebrate the start of summer with us,” organizers urged. “Your support helps the Youth Centre continue providing programs and opportunities for local youth throughout the year.”

Entry to the event is by donation, with proceeds supporting ongoing programming at the Carleton Place Youth Centre. Organizers noted that food and canteen items will be available for purchase separately.
