A Brampton resident was charged by Lanark OPP after three stolen vehicles were located in the area. Two other suspects fled on foot, police say.

Officers were notified by a vehicle security monitoring company that two stolen vehicles from the Peel region were being tracked eastbound on Highway 7 just after 2 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2026.

Officers observed the two vehicles along, with a third, travelling near Carleton Place on Highway 7; police say none of the vehicles had licence plates.

Officers were successful in stopping one and arresting the driver, however the other two failed to stop. These were found abandoned in Beckwith Township a short time later. Police say the drivers had fled on foot.

An OPP canine unit, Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and Ottawa police tracked the suspects but did not locate them.

As a result of the investigation, Harbalab Shegill, 22, of Brampton, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
