Young artists showcase visions of Carleton Place in community art competition

Twenty-four young artists from the local area spent last Saturday turning some of Carleton Place’s most recognizable locations into works of art as part of the Carleton Place Youth Landscape Art Competition.
According to a release from the Town of Carleton Place issued on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the competition challenged participants between the ages of 7 and 15 to create a piece of artwork showcasing “The Beauty of Carleton Place” in just one day.
The competition was organized through a partnership between the Carleton Place Public Library (CPPL), Arts Carleton Place and The Art Hub.
Armed only with sketchbooks, pencils, paints, and plenty of creativity, the young artists spread out across the community on June 13. They were allotted eight hours to complete their pieces before submitting them for judging, giving artists a unique opportunity to develop their artistic skills while drawing inspiration from the town’s landscapes, architecture and landmarks.
“We want to extend an enormous thank you to Arts Carleton Place for their generous help in setting up the art, donating their time, and choosing the winners for this competition,” CPPL said in a social media update. “We couldn’t have done this without all their help.”
With the artwork completed and submitted, residents now have an opportunity to see the results firsthand. All 24 pieces will be on display at the CPPL until June 25, where visitors can vote for their favourite artwork.
The piece receiving the most public votes will earn the ‘Best in Show’ award at an awards ceremony at the library on Saturday, June 20, at 1 p.m. Winners in each age category will be recognized and presented with prizes and community members are encouraged to attend, meet the artists and celebrate their artistic achievements.
Following the conclusion of the exhibition and awards ceremony at the library, local residents will have another opportunity to view the winning entries as they will be on display in the side window of The Art Hub for a time after June 25.
