‘Essential funding for clean infrastructure’: Perth launches wastewater lagoon expansion to support future growth

The expansion of the Perth Wastewater Lagoon marked a major milestone on Friday, June 26 with an official groundbreaking.
The event was attended by MPP John Jordan, members of council, Town staff, project partners and other community representatives.
The new investment is expected to increase wastewater treatment capacity and help support future residential development within the community. Once complete, the expansion will create capacity to increase the lagoon’s overall servicing capacity to the equivalent of 10,500 people.
The project is supported by nearly $3 million in funding from the Ontario government’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (MHIP-HEWSF).
The fund is aimed at helping municipalities build and improve critical water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure needed to enable housing development across Ontario.
Perth’s funding was originally announced in January of 2025.
Mayor Judy Brown. noted that this project will help ensure Perth is ready for future growth while continuing to provide the high-quality services residents and businesses depend on every day.
“We are grateful to the Government of Ontario for its support in helping make this important investment possible,” Brown stated.
MPP Jordan stated that “the visionary leaders of our riding are meeting the challenge of exponential growth by embracing new opportunities to create safe, healthy and inclusive communities,” adding that “this investment provides the essential funding for clean infrastructure, foundational in planning and designing a well-rounded mix of housing options to welcome people home to the beautiful Town of Perth.”
Construction on the Wastewater Lagoon Expansion Project is expected to continue through to Summer 2027.
