Lanark County celebrates 29 ‘Asset Builders’ for shaping brighter futures for local youth

From coaches and teachers to volunteers, libraries and community organizations, 29 individuals and groups from across Lanark County were officially recognized last week for the positive impact they make in the lives of local youth.
According to a release issued by the Town of Carleton Place on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the recipients were celebrated on Wednesday, June 24 during the second annual Asset Builder Awards, hosted by Lanark County in partnership with the Lanark County Child and Youth Services Collaborative.
“This year’s recipients were nominated by people across Lanark County in recognition of the positive impact they have on the lives of children and youth,” Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd, who also serves as Beckwith Township reeve. “These nominations highlight the many individuals who go above and beyond to support young people and help them reach their full potential.”
The awards are rooted in the Developmental Assets Framework, an evidence-based model developed by the Search Institute, the town shared. The framework identifies the relationships, experiences, skills and values young people need to thrive, with research showing that youth who have more developmental assets are less likely to engage in high-risk behaviours and more likely to experience positive outcomes in health, education, leadership and overall well-being later in life.
“These assets are most effectively built through meaningful relationships with caring, responsible adults and supportive peers who help young people feel valued, connected, and empowered,” Kidd added. “Creating active kids inspires bright futures.”
Examples of asset building include volunteering time with children and youth, encouraging them, listening to their ideas, introducing them to new opportunities and advocating for their success.
This year’s recipients in Lanark County represent communities throughout the county and a wide range of volunteer and professional roles.
