Lanark County pedals past Renfrew to claim 2026 Silver Chain Challenge title

In the month of June, Lanark County residents laced up their running shoes, hopped on their bicycles and hit local trails in record numbers, helping the county keep top honours in the annual Silver Chain Challenge.
According to a release issued by the Town of Carleton Place on Monday, July 6, 2026, a total of 378 participants from across Lanark County logged 31,673 kilometres over the month-long challenge, outpacing neighbouring Renfrew County’s 21,284 kilometres to earn the 2026 Silver Chain Challenge title.
As previously reported, the annual friendly competition encourages residents in both counties to embrace active transportation and healthy lifestyles by tracking the distance they travel while walking, running and cycling throughout the month of June. Participants were tasked with keeping track of their kilometres while exploring the county’s vast network of trails, roads, parks and communities.
“This victory is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our residents,” said Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd. “Nearly 400 participants came together to make active living a priority and demonstrate the incredible community spirit that exists across Lanark County. Every kilometre counted, and every participant played a role in bringing this year’s title home.”
Among the standout performances was Lanark County participant Perry Rousseau, who recorded an impressive 2,271 kilometres during the month—the highest total logged by any participant from the county.
“The Silver Chain Challenge is about much more than winning,” Kidd added. “It encourages healthier lifestyles, promotes active transportation, and inspires people to discover the incredible trails, roads, and communities that make our region such a wonderful place to live and visit. Congratulations to Perry and all of our participants for their achievements.”
With the trophy returning to Lanark County once again, town officials say they are already looking ahead to defending the Silver Chain Challenge title in 2027.
