Residents considering a run for municipal office in the 2026 municipal election will have a few more opportunities to learn more about the process this month through a series of free information sessions hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

According to a release from the Town of Carleton Place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the upcoming sessions are designed for prospective candidates interested in serving on municipal council and will provide an overview of the responsibilities, requirements and rules involved in seeking elected office.

Attendees can learn about the roles and responsibilities of council members, candidate eligibility requirements, the nomination process, campaign financing, compliance requirements, voting procedures and the resources available to candidates throughout the election process, town officials relayed.

The first session will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, July 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Lanark County Council Chambers at 99 Christie Lake Rd. in Perth. Town officials noted this session will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person or online.

A second session will be held next week on Wednesday, July 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the Carleton Place Arena, located at 75 Neelin St. This session will be offered in person only.
