Horns will be honking and bingo dabbers will be at the ready as Car Toot Bingo returns to the Almonte Fairgrounds this week, kicking off another season of fundraising for the North Lanark Agricultural Society.

Starting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the popular local fundraiser will run every Wednesday through the end of August at the Almonte Fairgrounds. Mayor Christa Lowry promoted the event on social media, encouraging residents to attend and support the agricultural society, which owns and maintains the fairgrounds and several other historic community landmarks.

The North Lanark Agricultural Society is responsible for the Agricultural Hall, a provincially recognized heritage building believed to be the only one of its kind in eastern Ontario, as well as The Grandstand, which dates back to 1868 and is considered Canada’s oldest covered wooden grandstand. The organization also organizes the annual Almonte Fair, which is now preparing for its 166th edition this fall.

Participants are encouraged to arrive early to secure their parking spot and peruse the selection of homemade pies from the snack shack.

“I go every year and I’m still waiting for my first bingo,” Lowry wrote. “But we have so much fun, and get to eat pie either way.”

The event is open only to participants aged 18 and older. Cash is required for both bingo cards and refreshments and pricing is estimated at $15 for 14 regular games plus the jackpot game, with additional specialty games available for purchase.

The Fairground gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the games beginning at 7 p.m. Players are also advised to bring a small board, table, cardboard or cookie sheet to hold bingo cards in place.

Residents interested in volunteering with the North Lanark Agricultural Society or learning more about the event can contact the organization by email at nlassecretary@gmail.com.
