Community rallies around Carleton Place barber after violent assault leaves him seriously injured

The Carleton Place community is rallying behind a well-known local barber after a violent assault left him with multiple broken bones, facial injuries and months of recovery ahead.
Kyle Blundell, owner of Towne Barber, is currently recovering at home after suffering a broken arm in three places, blunt-force injuries to his face and abdomen, emergency surgery and a stay in intensive care, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched on his behalf.
The fundraiser, organized by Kristyn Hesse, says the incident occurred after Blundell approached an individual on Bridge Street following concerns that had been raised within the community.
“What began as a conversation quickly turned into a violent assault,” Hesse explained.
While Hesse did not elaborate on the date or nature of the alleged violent altercation, she did say that Blundell has since been released from hospital; however, he is now facing an uncertain amount of time away from work while his arm heals and he undergoes extensive dental reconstruction and medical treatment.
As a self-employed barber, every day Blundell is unable to work, meaning lost income as medical and dental expenses continue to mount. Hesse said the fundraiser was created at the request of community members to help ease the financial burden on Blundell and his family while he focuses on recovery.
The online campaign has a goal of $22,000 and has already raised more than $18,500 as of Wednesday July 29, 2026. The fundraiser describes Blundell as “a devoted family man and a pillar of our community” who has turned his barbershop is a welcoming space for local children and teenagers by providing free back-to-school haircuts for families facing financial hardship, supporting local charities, and sponsoring youth sports teams.
“Kyle has spent years giving back to this community without ever expecting anything in return and now it’s our turn to support him,” the campaign urges. “Every donation, no matter the amount…will help Kyle focus on what matters most, healing and getting back to doing what he loves.”
