Carleton Place issues reminder about park waste bins after increase in illegal dumping

The Town of Carleton Place is reminding residents that household garbage is not permitted in waste receptacles located in municipal parks and along trails following an increase in illegal dumping.

In a release issued earlier this week, the Recreation and Culture Department says city staff have recently noticed more garbage bags containing household waste being left in municipal bins intended for park and trail users.

According to town officials, the receptacles are designed only for small amounts of day-use waste generated while residents visit parks and trails, reiterating that household garbage should be disposed of through regular residential waste collection and not in public green spaces.

Town officials stressed that improper disposal of household waste can detract from the enjoyment of parks and trails for other residents while placing an unnecessary burden on municipal maintenance staff. Residents that illegally dump household garbage in parks or along trails is prohibited by law and carries a $85 fine for each occurrence.
