Old Almonte Road reconstruction project gets underway this week with more than $1M investment

Construction is officially underway on a major reconstruction project for Old Almonte Road that will transform a large gravel section of the roadway into a paved route, stretching from southeast of Jack Dalgity Street to Appleton Side Road.
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills announced in a notice on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, that work has begun on the Old Almonte Road reconstruction project. The project was awarded to Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited in June for the total amount of $1,085,446.50., with half of the funding being provided by the Government of Ontario.
According to the notice, Old Almonte Road was identified in the 2024 Mississippi Mills Transportation Master Plan as a key transportation corridor in an area expected to see future development. The upgrades are intended to improve road safety, strengthen transportation connections and accommodate long-term growth.
Municipal officials stated that vegetation clearing will be taking place this week, with road construction expected to begin next week. The reconstruction will include paving the existing gravel road with asphalt, widening the roadway, replacing and upgrading culverts where needed, and adding paved shoulders to improve safety for road users.
Residents living near the construction zone have been notified by the municipality in advance of the work and can expect construction activity throughout the coming weeks. The project is anticipated to be completed this fall.
