Public health warns of potential infection exposure at Carleton Place nail salon

Clients of a Carleton Place nail salon are being advised to consult a healthcare provider after Southeast Public Health (SEPH) says they identified concerns involving the cleaning and disinfection of equipment.

The health unit says clients who received manicure, pedicure or waxing services at Galleria Nails, Spa and Eyelashes, located at 438 McNeely Ave., between July 4, 2023, and Aug. 12, 2026, may have been exposed to equipment that was not properly cleaned and disinfected.

Public health says those services are generally considered low risk when proper infection prevention and control procedures are followed. However, improperly cleaned or disinfected instruments can potentially transmit blood-borne infections, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C and, to a lesser extent, HIV.

No blood-borne infections have been linked to the Carleton Place business at this time, SEPH said.

While the risk is considered low, public health recommends anyone who received the affected services during the three-year period speak with a health-care provider about their individual risk and whether testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV is appropriate.

SEPH says the business took immediate corrective measures and now meets the infection prevention and control standards required to operate safely.

Additional information, including the IPAC lapse report, and answers to frequently asked questions, can be found on the SEPH website.

Members of the public can also contact SEPH at 1-800-660-5853 ext. 2222.
