One person hospitalized after Lanark Highlands house explosion

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is investigating a house explosion that took place in the McDonald’s Corners area of Lanark Highlands on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

“I can confirm that the occupant was taken to hospital and is alive,” PC Corey Noonan told Lanarkist in response to inquiries.

At this point, it remains unclear what exactly caused the explosion.

Noonan indicated that the OPP is assisting the Ontario Fire Marshal’s in their investigation “with scene security only.”

In terms of whether any criminal charges are expected, Noonan told Lanarkist that “at this time, we have not received any information that would involve us or charges. If after [the OFM} investigation they provide evidence to the contrary, we would then investigate.”

Jim Demetriou, an official with the OFM, told Lanarkist that “as the investigation remains active, we are not in a position to provide information regarding the cause or circumstances of the explosion at this time.”

Lanarkist will continue to follow this story, and provide updates as they are made available.
