Both Lanark and Leeds detachments of the OPP responded to multiple 911 calls in the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 16 after residents heard people yelling for help from the water.

Police say on Friday, Aug. 21 that officers arrived at about 2:20 p.m. on Sunday.

As there was not time to wait for additional marine resources, three officers, PC Taylor, PC Charbonneau and PC Thompson jumped to action.

“With help from a nearby homeowner, they launched a pontoon boat in the darkness and located two people whose boat had overturned,” reads a social media post from OPP.

Police say both individuals were brought safely to shore.

“The officers’ decisive actions, teamwork and willingness to act immediately prevented what could have been a devastating outcome,” the statement concludes.

Lanarkist has reached out to OPP for more information on this matter, which will be updated as it is made available.
