The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is once again preparing to recognize the businesses that have helped shape the community, and it’s asking residents to help identify this year’s honourees.

In a release issued on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, municipal officials announced that nominations are now open for the municipality’s annual Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night at on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Almonte Old Town Hall. The annual event celebrates local business owners who have reached significant milestones through continuous ownership and operation.

Awards will be presented to businesses celebrating 10, 25, 35, 50 and 65 or more years of operation under the same owner or family.

Since launching the program in 2016, Mississippi Mills council, with support from its Community and Economic Development Committee, has honoured businesses who have contributed to the municipality’s economic growth and community character. Since its inception, the program has recognized more than 110 Mississippi Mills businesses.

“Behind every successful business is a story of dedication, determination and community spirit,” said Mayor Christa Lowry. “The businesses we celebrate with this recognition have weathered challenges, embraced opportunities and continued to invest in Mississippi Mills year after year. Their commitment deserves to be celebrated.”

Residents, customers, employees, family members and business owners within the boundaries of Mississippi Mills are all encouraged to submit nominations with self-nominations also welcome.

Nomination submissions should include the following:

  • Business name
  • Owner’s name
  • Number of years the current owner (or same family) has operated the business
  • Business address
  • A brief description of the business and any notable milestones, stories or achievements

The municipality notes that while many businesses qualify for recognition, up to 40 businesses are honoured each year, with a maximum of 10 recipients in each milestone category. They added that businesses that are not selected in a given year will remain on an ongoing list for future consideration.

Nominations must be submitted by Sept. 10 to Tiffany MacLaren, manager of community and economic development, at tmaclaren@mississippimills.ca.
