An Embrun resident is facing impaired driving charges after Lanark County OPP say officers spotted a boat travelling at a high rate of speed on Pike Lake.

Officers were conducting a marine patrol on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they observed the boat shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to a Monday, Sept. 7 media release.

Police stopped the vessel and spoke with the driver, who was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment in Perth for testing.

As a result of the investigation, Mark Hercun, 51, of Embrun, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired — alcohol
  • Operating a vessel without firefighting equipment
  • Failing to have proof of competency on board a pleasure craft

Charges have not been proven in court.

Hercun was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Oct. 19.

Police say the accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the boat was impounded for seven days.
