Lanark County expands 1 Million Trees Program with free tree seedlings giveaway this month
Lanark County residents will have another opportunity to plant trees on their properties this fall as the County hosts its annual Fall Tree Seedling Giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026.
The giveaway is part of the county’s 1 Million Trees Program, an initiative aimed at increasing tree cover, supporting biodiversity, improving air and water quality, and helping address climate change one tree at a time.
Residents can pick up free seedlings from 9 to 11 a.m., or while supplies last, at one of two locations:
- Public Works Garage, 99 Christie Lake Rd., Perth
- Almonte Depot, 4752 County Rd. 29 N., Almonte
The tree species available for pickup this year are Red Maple, Sugar Maple, White Spruce, White Pine, White Oak, Bur Oak and Eastern Red Cedar.
According to county officials, each household is eligible to receive up to 10 seedlings, including a maximum of five maple seedlings. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bag or box to transport their trees home.
