Discover local species with free guided birdwatching walk this weekend

Residents in Carleton Place can explore local birdlife and natural heritage during a free guided birdwatching walk at the Pond of Tranquillity on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
According to a release from the town on Thursday, Oct. 1, the walk will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m and will be led by local naturalist and photographer Jeff Priest of Upland Nature Guides.
Presented in partnership with Carleton Place Tourism and Ontario Culture Days, the walk will teach participants about local birds and natural heritage, as well as birdwatching and photography techniques. Town officials note that the walk will take place at a slower pace, focusing on observation rather than distance and making it suitable for people new to hiking or birdwatching and those with accessibility considerations.
Participants are encouraged to bring a camera or smartphone and binoculars will be available to borrow at no cost. Attendees will also receive local birdwatching resources to continue exploring local wildlife on their own.
Admission is free, with optional pay-what-you-can donations accepted. The town noted that space is limited to 15 participants so advance registration is required through Ontario Culture Days.
The Pond of Tranquillity, also known as the Highway 7 Storm Pond, can be accessed near 109 Dunlop Road.
