Cyclists, runners and general users of the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (OVRT) are being advised to plan ahead as a section of the popular multi-use pathway undergoes maintenance this week.

Having begun on June 24, 2026, the rolling closure will be in effect on the section of trail between Shaw Road and the Highway 417 overpass while crews complete grading and resurfacing work, according to a release from the Town of Carleton Place.

“Lanark County has retained Crains Construction to conduct resurfacing on the northernmost section of the OVRT,” explained Public Works Manager Sam Poole. “Ongoing maintenance ensures safety, accessibility and resiliency for trail users.”

Rather than closing the entire section at once, town officials stated that crews will implement rolling closures as work progresses along different portions of the trail. As there are no practical alternate routes available in the area, there will be no detour signage posted during the construction period.

Weather permitting, the maintenance work is expected to be completed by the end of the day tomorrow or next Monday as a contingency day should additional time be required.

Trail users are encouraged to avoid active work areas and check conditions before travelling through the affected section while maintenance is underway.
