Smiths Falls seeks nominations for 2024 Citizen of the Year Award
The Town of Smiths Falls, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Smiths Falls, is seeking nominations for the 2024 Citizen of the Year.
The Citizen of the Year Award – also known as the Dr. T.O. Ashwell Memorial Award- recognizes a local resident or couple who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the community through consistent volunteerism and civic engagement. Named after former Smith Falls mayor Dr. T.O. Ashwell, the award honours individuals who embody a similar dedication to enriching the town they love.
“The Town of Smiths Falls is blessed to have had the support of countless individuals over our history, and it is fitting that we take the opportunity annually to properly recognize those individuals,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow in a press release issued on Thursday, April 3, 2025. “These individuals form the foundation of our great community and deserve to be recognized.”
In terms of eligibility, nominees must reside in Smiths Falls or Rural Smiths Falls and have made a lasting contribution to the community. Please note that current elected officials, candidates for municipal office, and town staff are not eligible for nomination.
Nominations are open until Friday, May 2, 2025, at 4 p.m. Forms can be accessed online at smithsfalls.ca/NominateCOTY, picked up at Town Hall reception and the Welcome Centre, or dropped off at the Town Hall main entrance.
The award ceremony and gala will take place at the Smiths Falls Golf & Country Club on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 6 p.m. Ticket sales close on Friday, May 16, at 4 p.m.
