Town of Perth shares update on local Algonquin College site and CAIVAN development

Algonquin College’s Perth Campus

The Town of Perth says progress continues on two significant developments in the community, including ongoing discussions surrounding the former Algonquin College site and plans for a proposed development by CAIVAN.

In an update released Monday, May 11, town officials said council and staff are continuing to work with multiple partners, including the Province of Ontario, as both projects continue to move through various stages of planning and consultation.

While few new details have been publicly released at this time, the town wanted to provide residents with a brief update on the state on affairs.

As previously reported, Lanark County Council identified the reuse of Algonquin College’s Perth campus as a “priority issue for provincial engagement” and Lanark County shared on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025 that progress has been made on plans to repurpose the Perth campus as a skilled trades training centre after the college’s board of directors voted to close the campus earlier last year.

In their update today, the County confirmed that discussions related to the future of the Algonquin College Perth site remain ongoing, noting that additional information will be shared in the coming days as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, officials say preparations are underway to host a public information centre focused on the proposed CAIVAN subdivision development, a proposed housing development at the Perth Golf Course with plans to build over 1,000 homes.

The upcoming session is intended to give residents an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions and engage directly with the planning process.

The event will take place on June 11, 2026, at 5:30 p.m at the Perth Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in the Hall at 26 Beckwith St E., Perth. The session will also be accessible virtually through Zoom using the provided link.

“We’re excited about the progress being made on both of these important files,” said Mayor Judy Brown. “These are complex initiatives that require coordination with multiple partners, and our focus has been on doing the work carefully and collaboratively. We look forward to sharing updates with the community as soon as we are in a position to do so.”

Mayor Brown said herself and the town remain committed to keeping residents informed as both projects continue to advance.

Further details are expected be released in the coming days. Lanarkist will continue to provide further information when it becomes available.
