Reduced load restrictions to take effect across Mississippi Mills beginning next week

Reduced load restrictions will take effect across Mississippi Mills beginning Monday, March 2, 2026 as the municipality moves to protect local roads during the oncoming spring thaw.

Effective next week, vehicles will be limited to five tonnes per axle on all municipal roads until further notice. The temporary restrictions are implemented annually to prevent structural damage to roads that become especially vulnerable as frost leaves the ground and moisture weakens the base layers, according to the municipality.

Municipal officials note that the restrictions will remain in place until weather conditions stabilize and the risk of thaw-related damage has passed.

Several roadways are exempt from the reduced load limits, as they are maintained by Lanark County. These roads include:

  • County Road 16 (Wolf Grove Road)
  • County Road 16A (Bridge Street, Martin Street South, Perth Street and Queen Street)
  • County Road 29
