A painted crosswalk honouring Canada’s veterans was recently unveiled in Hamilton, prompting much discussion in other Ontario communities as to whether a similar initiative should be taken locally.

There’s been a lot of chatter particularly in military towns like Quinte West.

“For an air force town this should be a must let’s make it happen,” said Gord Routcliffe in the Trenton/Quinte West Community Facebook group.

“You’d think with the biggest military air base we would have these already,” added Kaitlynn Angelina in the same group.

“For all those saying it’s better than a rainbow crosswalk, keep in mind that we have plenty of queer Canadians serving in our military,” said Johnny Waite. “They fight not only for their own right to exist ‘which is, in itself, a ridiculous thing to have to justify’ but also for the collective rights of all Canadians.”

Johnny Adam said “It’s no different than the pride painted cross walks…stop wasting tax dollars on this when taxes have to be raised and people and programs are struggling.”
