The Kemptville community is coming together in compassion and solidarity following the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Thomas Ball, age 46, who was tragically killed in a vehicle collision near Finch on July 15, 2025. Ball leaves behind a young family, who are now facing an unimaginable future without him.

In a town known for its close-knit and neighbourly spirit, this gathering is more than just a fundraiser for the family; it’s a reminder that in times of tragedy, Kemptville shows up — with food, kindness, and support.

To honour Ball’s memory and provide funds for his grieving family, a cash-only BBQ fundraiser is being held Thursday, July 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Howard Wilson Motors, located at 706 Prescott Street in Kemptville.

The BBQ is being organized by those closest to Thomas, including Candice Thompson, Manager at Howard Wilson Motors, where Ball had worked since April, and Heather South-Popazzi, a longtime friend lending her voice and community platform to help spread the word.

“Tom brought a different light to our workplace,” Thompson told Lanarkist. “He was kind, generous, smart, and could always crack a good joke. His loss has left a hole in our hearts.”

Ball’s wife, Mandy, was raised in Kemptville and comes from a family deeply rooted in the community as her father is a retired Kemptville police officer. Her family, like so many, was unprepared for such a sudden tragedy and now find themselves in a desperate situation.

“After learning that Tom didn’t have life insurance, and myself having a young family, I knew I had to do something,” explained Thompson. “We’ve reached out to local small businesses for help with supplies so that 100 per cent of all donations can go directly to the Ball family.”

Attendees can enjoy pulled pork, burgers, hot dogs, and drinks — all available by cash donations only. Every dollar raised will help cover the family’s immediate needs, from funeral costs to everyday expenses, providing them space to grieve without added financial stress.

“Kemptville was once a small town, and even as we grow, the heart of this community remains the same,” Thompson told Lanarkist. “When tragedy strikes, we show up for each other. That’s what this BBQ is all about — making sure Mandy and the kids know they’re not alone.”

For those unable to attend the event, the organizers encourage residents to share the fundraiser details and consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign that has already raised nearly $13,000 in support of the Ball family.
